Tong, Yunhaiis an associate professor in the Department of Intelligent Science, School of EECS, and has served as the Deputy Director of Mobile Digital Hospital Engineer Research Center (MOE) since 2013, Member of Committee of Smart Medical Experts for China Institute of Communications. He obtained his Ph.D. from Peking University in 2002. His research interests include data warehousing, big data management and mining, privacy preserving.

Dr. Tong has published more than 70 research papers, and most of them are published in top-tier conferences and journals, such as SIGMOD, TOIS. He was awarded the first prize and special Award of the China Association for GIS in 2013 and 2015 respectively, 3rd Prize of Beijing Science and Technology Award in 2015, 2nd Prize of Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award in 2016.

Dr. Tong has more than ten research projects including NSFC, 973 programs, 863 project, etc. His research achievements are summarized as follows:

1) Data integration: One major research topic in the field of data warehouse is to make sure that the data is stored and organized in a consistent, integrated form. He proposed the method of detection and integration on the same attribute or record from different data sources.

2) Modeling and analysis of big data: On the basis of extracting and analyzing the common demand and features of big data from different field, for multimedia data, he conducted researches about semantic extraction and modeling of semi-structured data based on sequential relations. For video data, he proposed several methods about behavior mining as well as feature representation and mining of text data.

3) Privacy protection of data: Based on previous findings, he conducted researches of individual privacy protection from three aspects: data mining, knowledge concealment and information release. He proposed an overall framework of data mining for privacy protection, a method of information release for maintaining of identity and so on.
